PROCUMBENT

pro•cum•bent / adj.: procumbent / (of a plant or stem) growing along the ground without setting forth roots. Procumbent plants are plants that trail along the ground. The term, procumbent is often used to refer to landscape plants (vines) that cannot grow upright unless aided by humans through training. The classification, “prostrate” is sometimes substituted. Such plants are alternatively called creepers. Examples include creeping phlox, creeping jenny, and creeping thyme.
